Philip Pilekjær 18.04 - 21.04 2019
We are pleased to announce a presentation of work by Philip Pilekjær. On view are two large-format prints originally produced for Longtang in Zürich in the autumn of 2018.
Here’s what was said last time:
Longtang is pleased to open an exhibition by Copenhagen-based artist Philip Pilekjær. Philip Pilekjær’s enlarged magazine pages on the walls and oor of Longtang are laid out in a provisional way, yet their motif is the result of various involvements. Following a previous work that utilized advertising space in Texte zur kunst, Pilekjær was asked by Provence Report to contribute an advertisement to its upcoming issue. As a response to Provence Report’s efforts to distance itself from particular tropes of kitsch and leisure, often related to its namesake Southern French region, Pilekjær travelled to Britanny, at the very opposite end of France, where he commissioned his friend, graphic designer Paul Guian, to redesign an advertisement for a local nightclub named after a large seabird. This seemed to offer a suitable emblem for the bleak and windy climates of the region.
For this occasion the two separate pages of the spread has been enlarged and printed in an edition of 2+1 AP. All on view.
Through this shift in format the communicative qualities of the magazine pages are transformed into formal details - rendering the silhouette logo into abstract shapes,
not unlike dashes of paint.
At forgo a single set of prints have been placed on the floor on a sheet of wrapping plastic. The foil which normally covers the windows has been removed, allowing an unobstructed view to the courtyard and the bright skies predicted this weekend. This time even more provisional, the prints fall back into a layered, rather suspended state
